Our Philosophy
Having worked in manufacturing all our lives, we realise that it is an industry that struggles for every pound so we have consciously minimised our overheads so that we can keep our costs and charges as low as possible. This is recognised in our very reasonable daily rates and training program charges. We also do not believe in just churning out standard products and ‘sheep-dipping’ all employees in the same way. We listen to the customer and try to identify the specific needs of their organisation and develop workshop or training materials to suit their needs. We are also trained coaches and can provide a coaching capability to support implementation of changes where required.
Our History
Nuclear and Manufacturing Excellence was formed in 2013 when I finally departed from Westinghouse after 33 and half years of working in the nuclear industry. I had been fortunate to gain some great experience over the years, initially in engineering which culminated in being the engineering manager for the first fuel for Sizewell B, including installation and commissioning of the PWR fuel fabrication plant. I moved on into operations and became the commissioning and then operations manager for the Oxide Fuels Complex which was the most complicated computerized plant in Western Europe at the time. By 2000 I was getting tired after 7 years of continuous challenges everyday and I took the oportunity to move into continuous improvement, initially studying Lean Manufacturing and implementing changes in the UK and then in 2004, becoming part of the global Customer 1st program and studying Lean Manufacturing and Six-Sigma to Black-belt level for 6 months and two years of improvement projects. In 2006 there was discussion of setting up a standardized manufacturing system globally across Westinghouse and I was fortunate enough to be one of the leads for the project. Despite my engineering and manufacturing background I became involved with developing a systematic approach to Training and this led to additional roles as Associate Dean for the Manufacturing College of Westinghouse University and also responsibilities for developing a new manufacturing leadership development program. Post Fukushima there was a reduced interest in people and process development due to financial pressures in a slow market, and I decided to make the break and set up my own business, with the intention of using my experiences to help UK manufacturing regain its skills in the nuclear supply chain. The business grew rapidly and we were soon Employer Nominated Members of the National Skills Academy for Nuclear. Ray Hardman (Director of FWD) joined me as an Associate, bringing additional skills, including a global reputation for Human Performance implementation. Raj Bhanot (Director of K B Consultants) also provided support as an associate, bringing a lifelong experience of nuclear quality to the team and Sian Beatty ( Director of High Moorside consultants) added her name to the associate list, bringing skills in nuclear contracts and markets.
